If an IVF injection is late, missed or only partly delivered, contact your clinic promptly using its urgent or out-of-hours route. The medicine, timing and treatment stage matter; this page cannot tell you whether to take, skip or reschedule a dose.
Have these details ready
- Exact medicine, prescribed dose and scheduled time.
- Current time and the last dose you know was taken.
- Whether none, some or an uncertain amount was delivered.
- Any device issue and the next planned procedure or dose.
Do not invent a catch-up or double-dose plan. Consult your medicine's patient leaflet and ask your clinic or pharmacist for medicine-specific advice. Use the leaflet for your exact medicine and device. For example, the manufacturer's GONAL-f pen leaflet and user manual are medicine-specific references, not instructions for all IVF injections.
If it is the trigger injection
Call the clinic's urgent contact immediately and report the scheduled and actual times. The Guy's and St Thomas' NHS egg-collection guide explains the relationship between the trigger and collection time. Follow the exact time your own clinic gives you; an app does not determine a safe delay.
Record the answer
Write down who advised you, when, and the exact instructions. Update your schedule only after the clinical team has confirmed the plan. If you cannot reach them, use the urgent-care contact route they provided or seek appropriate local medical help; an app or forum cannot resolve the dosing decision.
Reduce confusion next time
Keep a clear record of taken and pending doses, test notifications and use a separate backup for time-critical medication. COVE can organise records and reminders, but it does not determine doses or guarantee notification delivery.
